The architecture of old traditions

Vastu is derived from the linguistic root of ‘Vasa’, which means home, and ‘Shastra’, which means science: the science of homes. Prabhat has been illustrating this thesis for more than 30 years: buildings that aren’t planned and built in line with Vastu principles could lead to diseases, failures, relationship issues, psychical stress, lack of harmony and peace. However, if you plan following Vastu principles, according to Prabhat, the building will convey a feeling of peace, harmony, and wellbeing in all aspects of life. Dr Prabhat Poddar has often been invited to European universities and architecture centres as a guest to shed some light on Vastu and the western building industry We met him during one of his presentations and had an interesting chat.

Why do you believe that Vastu is a science to take seriously?

Vastu, rather Vastu Shastra, has always been considered a science. This knowledge hails all the way back to India, but was lost in all other countries. We tried to discover why it was designated as a science and why this old knowledge can still be considered scientific to this very day. Thanks to our research in the last 30 years we have rediscovered this old knowledge and we understand how important and necessary this science is in our life, leading to sometimes unbelievable results.

Which historical buildings are planned and built following Vastu principles in the western culture?

In many old cultures and traditions, palaces, buildings and cathedrals were built in line with Vastu principles. Romans completely integrated this knowledge and followed these principles, as seen in many Roman projects such as Villa Adriana and cities such as Carthage in Tunisia. Even other old cities were planned and built following these principles: a stellar example is Venice. There are excellent examples scattered all over the world of how old architectural traditions integrated Vastu into their buildings using a unique style and form of expression: the ancient Egyptians; the Mayas and Aztecs in Southern America; the Muslim Kingdom in the Far East; the Hindu and Buddhist influences in south-eastern Asia, China, Japan, Korea, Tibet. We can see it in their cathedrals, mosques, ziggurats, temples or Buddhist monasteries.

Could you summarise which methods you’ve developed for already
existing buildings? How do you ‘correct’ them and what experiences can you tell us about in terms of harmonising buildings?

The most important goal in Vastu is to maintain the harmony of the human body in a specific building. It’s necessary to know what affects and influences the human body. I couldn’t find a connection between the two for some time. However, I was given a glimpse into the heart of a very complex network of energy points after a deeply spiritual experience: I understood how they are working and how they are influenced by bio electro magnetic (BEM) radiations. Further research was necessary to understand the various architectural principles and traditions. After countless tests, we discovered that all old buildings in the world spontaneously harmonise one’s energy axes, which is not what happens in our modern buildings. What did the people of the past know that we don’t know or use anymore? Long years of studies and research helped me find ways and tools for harmonising and neutralising the different types of BEM waves. The results of these Vastu corrections were completely unexpected. I’m happy that there are people who study and use my principles with enthusiasm. I feel very accomplished when I can help people.

What tools and techniques do you use with Vastu?

We use the Lecher antenna which detects high-frequency waves. It’s helpful when researching certain waves, for example BEM, subterranean water courses, etc. in buildings: you can find disturbances and see how they affect our body. With this instrument we can also assess if the corrections we make using our own in-house developed tools, such as small marble dice and copper sheets with spiral symbols etched on their surface, are effective or if we need to complement them with other corrective solutions. With these tools we discovered that we can insulate energy at door or window frames, free energy and neutralise electrosmog.

Is it true that Vastu can aid the healing process in certain illnesses?

We discovered that many health problems are related to buildings. As people don’t know anything of Vastu and its positive health effects, we as architects have to be responsible for people’s health and social relations.

Can you tell us about a practical case related to this?

There are many. I can think of a family of entrepreneurs in Nagpur, central India, who moved into their newly built house. Soon, the wife started feeling strong pain in both legs. No medical treatment helped her for 2 years. The reason was that the kitchen was not located correctly, it was placed in the southwestern corner of the house. As soon as the kitchen was positioned correctly, i.e. to the southeast, the pain disappeared shortly thereafter.

After a correction, do you feel an immediate positive Vastu effect or does it take time?

After an energetic Vastu correction the positive results can be experienced right away, for some people even after 24 hours, for others however it may take some days, weeks, or months.

Electrosmog is a topical theme in the western world. Can Vastu get rid of it?

Electrosmog is a result of our modern technology, meaning it didn’t exist in the past. But our research, aided by geobiology, pointed to the fact that it is not possibile to remove electromagnetic waves. We can only neutralise their negative effects on the human body.

Does Vastu also eliminate underground water courses and their negative effects?

We can harmonise the negative influence of waves with our correction tools in buildings, offices, and homes, without implementing massive changes or reconstructions. In a new building, we can insert a 2-3 mm layer of lime below the foundation that will neutralise all waves produced by, say, the earth, magnetic elements and underground water courses.

Have you implemented your science often in the west?

I have corrected many buildings in Europe, the USA, Africa, Australia, India, the Middle and Far East, for example apartments, offices, shops, factories etc.

We read that you are passing on your knowledge and skills on in special training programmes

I offer Vastu courses in India, France, Italy, Germany and Russia. But I have already held courses in Kuwait. There are some very good Vastu counsellors in Germany who have been trained by me.
